Allen & York are proud to be supporting the HRH Prince of Wales's May Day Business Summit on Climate Change
Our May Day Pledges
- Measure Emissions.
- Develop a carbon reduction plan with SMART targets to minimise your impact.
- Raise the awareness of staff about climate change and empower them to take action.
- Identify a Board-Level Champion.
- Encourage suppliers to measure and minimise their own carbon footprint.
- Work collaboratively with suppliers to minimise the "end to end" carbon footprint along the supply chain
- Raising customer awareness about the actions they can take to reduce the carbon emissions resulting from the use of products and services.
Mark Allen, (Allen & York's Managing Director) is fully committed to our 7 May Day pledges and has put himself forward as our Board-Level Champion. We started the ball rolling on 4th Jan 2008 by inviting Envirowise to conduct an Environmental Audit of Allen & York.
What are we doing?
As a result of the Envirowise Audit we have measured our energy usage and identified the following ways to reduce it by:
- Turning off PCs, Printers, Fax Machines at night
- Turning off all lights and heaters at night.
- Central Heating - to install more controls for our heating system, to enable us to turn the heating off when not required (this is currently controlled by a different company on the top floor of our building). We hope this will make a significant difference to our usage.
- Lighting - to reduce lighting in over lit areas, e.g. foyer, meeting rooms, kitchen and toilets.
- Fuel emissions - in 2007 we offset employee business travel emissions with Climate Care. We will do this again for 2008, plus offeting the emissions from our electricy and gas usage.
These measures are part of a holistic approach to creating a more environmentally friendly company, by reducing waste to landfill, by increasing our recycling and composting our waste (by introducing a wormery). Reducing our energy and water usage and reducing our car usage.
